Kris Wu and Liu Wen are the only Chinese celebrities to make it on the list.
Every year, Forbes releases a list of 30 influential people under 30 years old who have made substantial impact in their fields. The nominees are judged by established A-listers in the entertainment industry.
Actor, Singer, Creative Artists Agency
Is there anything Kris Wu can’t do? Originally from China, he shot to fame as a member of Korean K-pop group EXO. He went on to act in some massively successful films, like the record-breaking The Mermaid (China’s top grossing film of all time). He’s the first Chinese actor to attend the prestigious Met Gala, and also played in the NBA All-Stars Game for Canada (coached by none other than Drake).
Widely regarded as China’s first supermodel, Liu Wen’s journey to the catwalk was far from easy but her big break came in 2008, when she landed a spot on Burberry’s runway show during Milan Fashion Week. Today, apart from treading the catwalk, Liu appears in global campaigns for a host of major fashion and cosmetics brands. Forbes estimates Liu banked $7 million in earnings last year, making her one of the highest-paid models in the world. Modeling aside, Liu’s likeable personality has earned her over 18 million followers on Chinese microblogging website Weibo and another 2.7 million on Instagram, making her one the most followed models on social media.
Also included in the list is Chinese athlete Fu Yuanhui who made headlines last year for talking about her period in an interview and her adorable reaction to winning a bronze medal for Swimming.
